Oldman
OLDMAN
You are in the the last remaining construction of humans.
And you are the last specimen of your kind…
Look outside…
Humanity… Has failed miserably…
Taken place in an post apocalyptic setup where humanity is no more, Oldman, is a short experience that consists of unique atmospheric challenging puzzles, sided with a compelling narrative
Inspired by indie titles such as Inscryption, Quadrata and Blue Prince, this game is designed and developed for Global Game Jam Next 2025, Peaceformers challenge.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Known Problems:
* Sound effects are crippling on some browsers, if you face with this issue, you might want to switch browsers or download the windows version.
* Game sometimes get stuck on dialogues and won't load the next level. In that case you can use the debug keys to load the next level. There shouldn't be sudden interruptions in the narrative, you will understand when the game is over.
*In rare occasions humans pathfindings do overlap, causing unintended behaviour.
Important Notes:
1- 3D WebGL kinda sucks. So the windows build would be more optimal for an uninterrupted experience. (Possible visual artifacts, sound glitches, browser problems etc...)
2- This is a small personal project, and definitely not perfect, so if you are stuck somewhere(bugged, didn't understand etc...) please check debug tools below, they are really helpful.
3- This game is made for Global Game Jam Next BAL 2025, on G4C peaceformers challenge.
4- The main puzzle mechanic might be confusing for some players. You can check guide below to learn how to play the game(Even though I don't recommend it :P)
5- I used random japanese characters as dialog background visual since I didn't have time to do localization. I apologize if I offended anyone ;-;
How To Play
I believe that one of the most fun parts of puzzle games are figuring out how to puzzle works itself, so I suggest looking guides only in times of emergency
The "Game"
The game is fully diagetic, which makes it completely playable with mouse and clicks(Try clicking every little interactable object :P). In addition, right click deselects the selected objects in hand.
The "Wasteland" Puzzle
First time you see the wasteland puzzle, you are faced with 4 major elements onboard:
1-Big Red Button:
- You Push This Button To Skip Turns
- At the end of your turns, game checks whether you lose or win.
2- Red Bulbs
- These bulbs show you how many turns you have left.
3-Resources
- Your goal is to equally split these resources for humans to collect. You must place all of your resources before the last turn.
4-Humans
- Humans collect nearby resources every turn.
- If there are any resources, humans moves that direction.
- If there are multiple resources at the same distance, humans choose according to numbers on top of the hex. (1- most preferred, 6-least preferred)
Debug Keys
N -> Next Level
R -> Restart
0,1,2,3,4,5 -> Go to level 1,2,3,4,5,6
F5-> WINDOWS BUILD ONLY -> Recalculate human navigation (They sometimes do wrong decisions on edge cases, so this might be the savior.)

Assets Used
Text Animator for Unity
Post Processing Shaders (used them as a base then ported them into WebGL and my current pipeline)
! AI Usage !
- I used chatgpt to generate different variations of detail textures.
- I used suno.ai to generate short guitar loop for the ending.
I've created the rest of the assets (3D art, 2D art, Scripts, shaders, vfxs, some sfxs...) by myself.

wow... this is impressive
Neat little game, a bit cheap you can place tiles after the board has moved though
And just about the last message, there isn't always enough to hand- like nowhere in the game was there not enough water to be split, for example
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it! I'm not sure I got the second part, though. The message in the end was "There was always enough, we just forgot how to share."?
"If water is needed to survive, but there is only one tile, but two people, then there is not enough for all to survive"
Something which happens often in real life, but is glossed over for the game (could even turn into a moral dilemma if the game was bigger)
Really a meaningless remark other than to say "thats not true", "there's not always enough"
I see, it makes a lot of sense. Thank you for your feedback! This actually was a scope constraint, since I designed the game around current puzzle dynamic. Maybe I will add this dilemma in a future update ; )
As a official old man, ı can assure you that this game is %100 accurate.
